The Ditto Project

The Ditto Project is an ongoing enquiry between Bernardine Carroll and graphic designer Dave Wrenne into reproduction and authorship in art after the internet and the changing relationship between the artist and the audience.

Active Archive

The Ditto Project has been asking artists to contribute original artworks to it’s Active Archive. The artworks exist in the archive in the form of instructions, which range from recipes to reading lists. Each artwork must not have been created, by the artist or anyone else, prior to their contribution to the archive. Once in the archive, they are available for down load from the archive blog and at Active Archive events. Artists can contribute to the Active Archive at these events, or email their instructions to thedittoproject@gmail.com.

The Ditto Dance Project

The Ditto Project worked with dance artists Frej Tiljander and Ailish Claffey who created two dance pieces for the archive. These dance pieces were premiered at Excursions Performance Festival 2008 in Limerick, where 28 participants performed the dance pieces in public for the first time by following audio and written instructions.

HorsePlay
The Ditto Project requested artist that Aine O’Dwyer train Bernardine Carroll to do one of her performances. She agreed to coach, and asked that it be performed at a solo show of documentation of O’Dwyers performances. For the piece titled Horseplay Carroll was coached on movement and appearance, learning how to be Aine O’Dwyer’s art.
The Ditto Project: Research Space
As part of Limerick School of Art and Design Degree Show 2008, The Ditto Project set up a research space which joined the Active Archive with a discussion space and rehearsal room, while presenting all of the research and documentation it had accumulated over the past 8 months.
